In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina many of Southern Pine's customers expressed gratitude for the crews from other areas that assisted in the massive restoring of power in our service area. West Kentucky Rural Electric Cooperative Corporation (WKRECC) in Mayfield, Kentucky, was one of the many cooperatives that came to our aid in 2005. Southern Pine had the opportunity to return the favor when WKRECC was hit with a severe ice storm the last week of January that knocked out power to their entire service area.

Eleven Southern Pine crew members left the sunny south for the frigid temperatures of Kentucky to help WKRECC crews: John Barr, Nathan Hudson, Dustin McKenzie, Trevor Phillips, Brock Hudson, Shay Sanford, Jerry Cameron, Steve Lee, Barry McCool, Jimmy Arender and Matthew Keller.
