Southern Pine Prepares for Hurricane Gustav

August 29, 2008 3:20 P.M.

  • Due to the current and forecasted weather conditions Southern Pine EPA has activated its emergency restoration plan. We are monitoring the weather throughout our 11-county service area and have completed preparations to deal with any problems that result from Hurricane Gustav.
  • At the present time we have placed our employees on alert to react to any problems created by the storm system that is predicted.
  • Southern Pine utilizes 24-hour-a-day dispatchers, and company officials request you call immediately if you experience any outages, or if you see any power lines down.
  • Individuals who see downed power lines should report them immediately and should stay away from the lines and keep others away. Individuals dependent on life support equipment should be making arrangements for an emergency back-up system or relocation in the event of extensive outages due to storm damage.
  • As weather forecasts indicate that Southern Pine's service area is in the path of Hurricane Gustav, we encourage you to make emergency plans for your homes and businesses. Heavy rain, strong winds and tornadoes are expected.
