Generator Safety

Use generators safely to avoid a tragedy

Generators ensure electricity during power failures. But if one’s not wired properly through a transfer switch, it can create tragic consequences.

If you are using a generator during a power outage, a double-throw switch is required between your generator and the electrical system to prevent current from feeding back into the power line.

Electrical current feeding back into the line can result in serious—even fatal—injuries to our crewmen who are already working tireless hours to restore power.

Southern Pine Electric Power Association’s linemen train hard and work hard to keep power flowing to you and your family. Please install standby generators safely. Don’t put their lives on the line.
